“My name is Rachel Nosco, and I am a freelance fashion illustrator living in Los Angeles.
I studied illustration in college at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, and have continued with it since graduating in 2014. I am a very visual person, and have always loved drawing and painting since I can remember. I feel very lucky that my passion has carried over into what I do for a living, and therefore created my professional identity.
Being a fashion illustrator also means that I need to be knowledgeable on current fashion and trends, so I make sure to always stay updated on that! I think really just learning more about what fashion illustration is exactly is so important. Often people don’t know, or think that it is the same thing as fashion design, but there is such a broad spectrum of what qualifies as fashion illustration. You could really take it in any direction, whether it’s commercial, editorial, or even fine art.
I actually used to want to be a makeup artist (it is totally a form of painting, only on faces instead of a canvas!) so I am looking forward to see them doing their thing on the models backstage. I do like to experiment with makeup trends sometimes, but my go-to favorites are always a bold brow with some smudgey eyeliner and a nude lip.
Although I also love a dramatic bronzey metallic look as well! I always use Stila’s powder bronzer. It’s such a nice, natural color and it works well with my skin tone, especially for summer. And of course the Extreme Lash Mascara is always a must, since I rarely feel my makeup look is complete without some coated lashes.
Stay tuned as I share my adventures here all week long!”

“I love the challenge of working in an “on the spot” environment where you only have limited time to come up with something. I think it forces you to be creative in the moment and not fuss with a piece for too long which always helps me to grow as an artist even once the event is over.”

“For my first show of the week it was great seeing the pretty bronze hues used throughout the face, eyes and lips. Such a classic and flattering palette, I’m definitely inspired to incorporate it into my own look!”
